21ic Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. introduces the Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) RF to Bitstream Tuner MAX2173 for automotive and other mobile DAB/FM applications. As the industry's first RF-to-bitstream DAB/FM tuner, the device integrates a wireless tuner, analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and digital filter to connect directly to a digital signal processor (DSP) via a digital I2S output. The RF-to-bitstream design allows system designers to use existing DSPs for baseband processing, which greatly speeds up the development process and enables seamless software upgrades. The integrated design eliminates a large number of external components in the traditional RF tuner design, effectively reducing costs, reducing BOM, and saving space.

With a built-in ADC and digital filter, the MAX2173 reduces the output data rate, which reduces the signal processing load on the back-end DSP.
